No se conocen las causas de su muerte, las autoridades canadienses la están investigando. El actor tenía 31 años y mantenía una relación íntima y personal con la actriz Lea Michelle.
Un representante del artista le declaró a E! News lo siguente: "“Estamos muy tristes al confirmar que los reportes sobre la muerte de Cory Monteith son correctos. Estamos en shock y devastados por esta trágica pérdida”.
